Myall Creek

The town of Dalby was originally simply a crossing place over the Myall Creek. Nowadays, the creek is a beautiful feature of the town, slowly winding and meandering it's way through the centre of the town.

The local Western Downs Regional Council has recently upgraded and beautified the walkways along the creek which makes for an easy, pleasant stroll on a free afternoon.

Pioneer Park Museum

Displaying one of the largest collections of working pioneer tractors and agricultural machinery in Queensland, as well as authentic colonial buildings and heritage items, the Dalby Pioneer Park Museum is a treasure trove of history.

Walk through the original buildings and catch a glimpse of the lives of our earlier generations. The museum holds an antique firearm collection, a rare Chandler Hearse (one of only two left in the world) and a massive collection of Aboriginal artefacts, there is sure to be something in the Dalby Pioneer Park Museum to capture and intrigue every visitor. Of notable interest is the handwritten letter by Ned Kelly asking authorities to allow his mother to visit him in prison.

Lake Broadwater

Lake Broadwater Conservation Park protects the only natural lake on the Darling Downs and the surrounding cypress and brigalow. Waterbirds and wildlife are drawn to the shallow lake and find refuge in the surrounding vegetation. The lake precinct was a focal point for local Aboriginal people and later teamsters and early settlers. Picnic under river red gums, relax and enjoy the wildlife and wildflowers. Watch waterbirds nesting on the 'neck' of the lake from an elevated bird hide

Visitors can stroll along the two-kilometre track joining the two camping areas or take the five-kilometre (return) self-guided drive. Swimming, boating and water skiing are permitted, but make sure you check with the local ranger in regards to permits etc.

The Bunya Mountains

The majestic Bunya Mountains is a spectacular wilderness range forming an isolated section of the Great Dividing Range. The immense subtropical range of cool, green rainforest, eucalypt forests and woodlands is home to the world's largest forest of bunya pines. Native wildlife, wallabies and pademelons as well as 121 species of birds including brilliantly coloured king parrots, satin bowerbirds and crimson rosellas, call this area home.

The range features panoramic mountain scenery and breathtaking views over the South Burnett region and southern plains. Nights are alive with the sounds of the nocturnal creatures and a myriad of stars, while mornings have a fresh, crisp and clean mountain quality.

Aboriginal people historically used the Bunya Mountains as a meeting place for the various tribes scattered throughout Queensland and New South Wales. They feasted seasonally on the bunya nuts collected from the bunya pine trees (Araucaria bidwillii).

The Bunya Mountains offer the quiet allure of a retreat environment favoured by families, groups and honeymooners alike. The Bunya Mountains are pristine, peaceful and spectacular.
